Mootoriõlid are essential lubricants used in internal combustion engines. Their primary function is to reduce friction between moving parts, thereby minimizing wear and tear. By creating a thin film between surfaces like pistons and cylinder walls, engine oil prevents direct metal-to-metal contact, which would otherwise lead to rapid degradation of engine components.

As oil circulates through the engine, it picks up heat from hot components and carries it away to the oil pan, where it can dissipate. Furthermore, mootoriõlid act as a cleaning agent. They collect debris, combustion byproducts, and wear particles that are generated within the engine. These contaminants are then carried to the oil filter, where they are trapped, keeping the engine internals clean and free from harmful sludge.

Mootoriõlid also provide a crucial seal. The oil film between the piston rings and cylinder walls helps to maintain compression, preventing combustion gases from leaking into the crankcase and oil from entering the combustion chamber. Finally, they offer protection against corrosion by forming a protective barrier on metal surfaces, preventing rust and other forms of oxidation. The type of mootoriõli used is critical and depends on the engine's design, operating conditions, and manufacturer specifications, often indicated by viscosity grades and performance standards.
