Montafoner

The Montafon is a valley in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg. Located in the westernmost province of Austria, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, known for its stunning alpine scenery and extensive outdoor recreation opportunities. The valley is approximately 39 kilometers long and is situated in the Rätikon Alps, a mountain range that forms part of the larger Central Eastern Alps.

The Montafon is divided into several municipalities, including Blons, St. Gallenkirch, Gaschurn, Partenen, and Schruns, which serves as the main commercial and administrative center. This region has a rich history, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. Historically, it was an important area for mining, particularly silver and copper, and later for agriculture and forestry.

In modern times, the Montafon has transformed into a premier destination for winter sports. It boasts a vast network of ski resorts, offering a wide range of slopes for all skill levels. Popular ski areas include Silvretta Montafon, Gargellen, and Golm. The Silvretta High Alpine Road, which is open seasonally, provides breathtaking views and access to various recreational activities.
