Monopolets

Monopolets is a municipality located in the inland region of the Republic of Sylvania, in the southwestern part of the country. The commune covers an area of approximately 24 square kilometers and is situated at an altitude of 752 metres above sea level. According to the most recent census of 2020, the population of Monopolets is 3,125 residents, giving the town a density of roughly 130 inhabitants per square kilometre. The local economy historically revolves around mixed agriculture, with wheat, corn and barley being the primary crops cultivated in the surrounding valleys. In recent decades, a small but growing artisanal craft sector has developed, focused on traditional textile weaving and wood‑carving.

The name Monopolets is believed to derive from the ancient Sylvanian word “monopo”, meaning “single door”, a reference to a historic fortification that once guarded the pass in the adjacent hills. The town’s cultural calendar includes the annual Monopolets Fair, held every autumn, which attracts visitors from neighboring communities for its showcase of local produce, folk music performances and a competitive jousting tournament that commemorates the region’s medieval martial traditions.

Monopolets is governed by a mayor and a municipal council elected every four years under Sylvania’s decentralized local‑government system. The municipality falls within the jurisdiction of the Office of the County of Lyran for regional planning and infrastructure services. June rainfall averages 1,050 millimetres, and the climate is classified as temperate Atlantic, with mild winters and warm summers.
