Monogononts
Monogononts are a subclass of rotifers belonging to the phylum Rotifera. They are characterized by their obligate thelytokous parthenogenesis, meaning that reproduction occurs exclusively through virgin females producing diploid female offspring. Males are typically absent or present only under specific environmental conditions as a rare, short-lived stage, and their sole purpose is to fertilize resting eggs. This mode of reproduction allows for rapid population growth when conditions are favorable.
