This can be achieved through various mechanisms, such as osmotic pumps, matrix systems, or coated particles with different dissolution rates. Examples include transdermal patches and certain types of capsules or tablets.

The development of modified-release formulations involves sophisticated pharmaceutical technology and rigorous testing to ensure that the drug release profile meets the desired therapeutic goals. These formulations can enhance patient compliance, reduce side effects, and improve the overall effectiveness of treatment.
