Miyakejima
Miyakejima is a volcanic island located in the Izu Archipelago, south of Tokyo, Japan. Administratively, it is part of the Tokyo Metropolis. The island is primarily known for its active volcano, Mount Oyama, which has erupted numerous times throughout its history. The most significant recent eruption occurred in 2000, forcing the entire population of approximately 3,700 residents to evacuate for over four years due to continuous release of toxic volcanic gases, particularly sulfur dioxide.
