Mittekrüptograafilised

Mittekrüptograafilised is an Estonian term meaning non-cryptographic. It describes methods, algorithms, or practices that do not rely on cryptographic techniques to achieve security, integrity, or authenticity. The term contrasts with cryptographic approaches such as encryption, digital signatures, and cryptographic hash functions.

Common examples include checksums and parity bits used for error detection, and non-cryptographic hash functions or fast hashing algorithms that prioritize speed over security. These approaches can support data integrity or quick lookups but are not designed to resist intentional tampering or to provide secrecy.

In security and system design, non-cryptographic methods are typically used alongside cryptographic measures, or for non-sensitive tasks where performance or simplicity is paramount. They should not be assumed to offer protection against deliberate attacks, and their vulnerability to collisions, forgery, or tampering means they are unsuitable for cryptographic use cases.

Limitations: non-cryptographic techniques do not provide confidentiality, strong integrity guarantees, or authentication. Their security properties rely on external controls, process safeguards, or cryptographic primitives if cryptographic security is required.
