Mitron is a popular social media application that gained significant traction in India. Launched in March 2020, it was developed by Indian entrepreneurs. The app's primary function is short-form video creation and sharing, allowing users to produce and upload videos typically ranging from 15 seconds to a minute. It gained popularity due to its user-friendly interface, a wide range of editing tools, filters, and a vast library of music and sound effects.

Mitron offered features similar to other international short-video platforms, including options for duets, challenges, and trending content discovery. Its rise coincided with a period of heightened interest in domestic digital alternatives. The app quickly amassed millions of downloads and a large active user base within its initial months. However, it also faced scrutiny regarding its technological underpinnings and data privacy concerns. Following geopolitical tensions, the Indian government banned Mitron in June 2020, along with many other Chinese applications. Despite its short lifespan in the market, Mitron represented a notable effort by Indian developers to create a competing platform in the burgeoning short-video landscape.
