It is said to crystallize in the hexagonal system, with a hardness of about 6.0 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. The color range is pale emerald-green to olive, with a vitreous luster and a pale gray streak. Cleavage is described as imperfect, and the fracture typically conchoidal. Crystal structure and formation: The imaginary crystal is portrayed as consisting of two-dimensional aluminosilicate sheets with interlayer water molecules bound by hydrogen bonds.
