Millimeterwellenbändern

Millimeterwellenbänder, often abbreviated as mmWave, refer to a specific range of radio frequencies. This designation typically encompasses the frequency spectrum from 30 gigahertz (GHz) to 300 GHz. These frequencies correspond to wavelengths between 1 millimeter and 10 millimeters. While traditionally less utilized than lower frequency bands, mmWave technology has seen significant advancements, particularly in recent years.

The short wavelengths associated with mmWave offer several advantages, including the ability to carry large amounts of data at very high speeds. This makes them attractive for applications requiring high bandwidth, such as advanced wireless communication systems like 5G and beyond, as well as radar systems and high-resolution imaging. However, mmWave signals also have limitations. They are highly susceptible to atmospheric absorption, particularly from rain and other weather conditions, and their propagation is significantly hindered by physical obstacles like walls and even foliage. This means that mmWave systems often require line-of-sight transmission and a denser network of transmitters for reliable coverage compared to lower frequency bands.
