Mikrostillstånd

Mikrostillstånd, a term derived from statistical mechanics, refers to a specific microscopic configuration of a system that corresponds to a given macroscopic state. A macroscopic state, such as temperature or pressure, can be realized by a vast number of different arrangements of the individual particles (atoms or molecules) within the system. Each of these individual arrangements is a mikrostånds.

The number of mikrostillstånd accessible to a system in a particular macroscopic state is known as the thermodynamic probability or statistical weight of that state. This concept is fundamental to understanding the behavior of systems with many degrees of freedom, like gases or solids. The more mikrostillstånd a macroscopic state can be represented by, the more probable that state is.

For instance, consider a gas in a box. A macroscopic state might be defined by its volume, temperature, and pressure.
