Mikopeilejä is a Finnish term that translates to "micro-mirrors" in English. This term typically refers to a type of optical component composed of numerous tiny, individually controllable mirrors. These micro-mirrors are usually arranged in a two-dimensional array on a semiconductor chip. Each micro-mirror can be tilted or rotated independently, allowing it to reflect light in a specific direction. This precise control over light reflection is the core principle behind their functionality.

The primary application of mikopeilejä is in digital light processing (DLP) technology, which is widely used in projectors. In a DLP projector, a chip containing millions of micro-mirrors illuminates a light source. The mirrors are rapidly switched back and forth to direct light either towards the projection lens or away from it. By controlling the tilt of each mirror for each pixel on the screen, the system can create images with varying degrees of brightness.
