Fossils attributed to Mikobibibinctades have been discovered in Miocene-aged marine deposits, primarily in the southeastern United States. The genus is distinguished by a unique combination of cranial features, particularly the structure of the skull and the asymmetry characteristic of toothed whales.

The name Mikobibibinctades is derived from Greek and Latin roots, referencing its distinctive anatomy. Scientific understanding of this extinct cetacean is based on limited fossil evidence, primarily cranial fragments. These remains suggest an animal that likely possessed a well-developed melon, a fatty organ in the forehead used for echolocation, a trait common in modern sperm whales.
