Migraatiota

Migraatio is a Finnish term that translates to migration in English. It refers to the movement of people from one place to another with the intention of settling, either temporarily or permanently. This movement can occur within a country, known as internal migration, or across international borders, termed international migration.

Migration is a complex phenomenon driven by a multitude of factors. These can be broadly categorized as push factors and pull factors. Push factors are those that compel people to leave their place of origin, such as economic hardship, political instability, persecution, environmental degradation, or lack of opportunities. Pull factors, conversely, are those that attract people to a new destination, including better economic prospects, political freedom, safety, educational opportunities, or family reunification.

The effects of migration are far-reaching, impacting both the areas of origin and destination. For countries of origin, migration can lead to a loss of skilled labor (brain drain) but also to remittances sent back by migrants, which can boost the economy. For destination countries, migration can fill labor shortages, contribute to cultural diversity, and stimulate economic growth.
