Meziproduktu

Meziproduktu is the Polish term for an intermediate product—the item created during a manufacturing or chemical process that is not yet the final product. It serves as an input for subsequent steps and may be held in inventory as work in progress (WIP) or as part of the production queue. The status of a meziproduktu is typically temporary; once processing continues, it becomes a more finished item or the final product. Meziproduktu can arise in many sectors, including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, and electronics.

Characteristics of meziproduktu include the necessity for additional processing, assembly, or refinement before it can be released as a finished good. Its value generally reflects production costs up to that point and may include materials, labor, and overhead. Depending on accounting rules, it can be valued at cost or at net realizable value if the item becomes obsolete or unsellable. The boundary between meziproduktu and finished goods depends on the production process and product specifications.

Relation to other concepts: it differs from raw materials (not yet used in production) and finished goods (ready for sale). It can also be distinguished from by-products (outputs produced incidentally) and co-produks (multiple final products from the same process).

Applications and significance: Managing meziproduktu is a key part of production planning and inventory control, affecting lead times, capacity planning, and cost accounting. In many companies, precise classification as WIP helps reflect true production progress and financial status, supporting better decision-making in manufacturing and supply chains.
