Meteorenzwerms

Meteorenzwerms are a fictional class of lifeforms described in speculative astrobiology and science fiction. The term combines meteor with zwerm, a coinage echoing the idea of a swarm, to indicate swarm-like life that inhabits meteor streams and meteoroids.

According to the fictional concept, meteorenzwerms consist of loosely organized, plasma-like units at nanometer to micrometer scale. These units form dynamic swarms able to reconfigure their structure, communicate through electromagnetic fields, and adapt to rapid environmental changes. They are often depicted as metabolizing chemical energy carried by ionized gas and dust, with phase transitions that allow dormancy during entry into planetary atmospheres.

Life cycle and ecology: In many depictions, meteorenzwerms originate in interplanetary dust clouds or cometary debris. They are carried by meteoroid streams and can withstand extreme temperatures and radiation. Upon atmospheric entry, they may disassemble into smaller swarms, some of which seed planetary surfaces or aerosols, while others dissipate.
