Metallkomplexens is a term used in chemistry to describe metal complexes. For example, the color of many transition metal complexes arises from electronic transitions within the d orbitals of the metal ion, which are influenced by the ligands.

Metal complexes play crucial roles in numerous biological processes, such as oxygen transport by hemoglobin, and are widely used in industrial applications, including catalysis, medicine, and materials science. Examples include platinum-based chemotherapy drugs and the use of transition metal complexes as catalysts in organic synthesis.
