Metallisidosta

Metallisidosta refers to a specific type of chemical bond found in metallic substances. Unlike covalent bonds, which involve the sharing of electrons between atoms, or ionic bonds, which involve the transfer of electrons, metallic bonding is characterized by a "sea" of delocalized electrons. In a metallic solid, the valence electrons of the metal atoms are not confined to individual atoms but are free to move throughout the entire metallic lattice.

This sea of mobile electrons creates a strong electrostatic attraction between the positively charged metal ions and the negatively charged electrons. This attraction is what holds the metal atoms together. The delocalized nature of the electrons is responsible for many of the characteristic properties of metals, such as their excellent electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, malleability, and ductility. The free-moving electrons can easily transport charge and heat, and they allow the metal atoms to slide past each other without breaking the bonds when subjected to stress. The strength of the metallic bond can vary, influencing properties like melting point and hardness.
