Meroveus
Meroveus was a legendary chieftain of the Salian Franks, who lived in the first half of the 5th century CE. He is considered the semi-mythical progenitor of the Merovingian dynasty, the first ruling house of the Franks. The primary source of information about Meroveus is the 6th-century historian Gregory of Tours, whose work "Histories" mentions him briefly. Gregory states that Meroveus was the son of Chlodio, and the grandfather of Childeric I, and that he fought alongside the Roman general Aetius against Attila the Hun at the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains in 451 CE. However, the historical accuracy of this assertion is debated by modern scholars.
