Meniere's disease is a disorder of the inner ear that affects hearing and balance. The symptoms of Meniere's disease typically occur in episodes, which can last from a few minutes to several hours. During an episode of vertigo, a person may experience a sensation of spinning or unsteadiness, which can be severe enough to cause nausea and vomiting. Hearing loss in Meniere's disease can fluctuate, meaning it may improve and worsen over time. Tinnitus, a ringing or buzzing sound in the ear, is also a common symptom. A feeling of pressure or fullness in the affected ear may also be present.

Diagnosis of Meniere's disease is based on the patient's medical history, a physical examination, and hearing and balance tests. There is no cure for Meniere's disease, but treatments are available to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. These treatments may include dietary changes, medications, and vestibular rehabilitation therapy. In some cases, surgery may be considered. Lifestyle modifications such as reducing salt intake and managing stress can also be beneficial.
