Menapii
The Menapii were a Belgic people who inhabited the region of northern Gaul roughly corresponding to modern Flanders and Zeeland. They are mentioned by Julius Caesar in his Commentarii de Bello Gallico, where he describes them as one of the most warlike tribes. During Caesar's Gallic Wars, the Menapii maintained their independence by retreating into the forests and marshes of their territory, making them difficult for the Romans to subdue. They were known for their skill in naval warfare and for their strong defensive positions.
