Melléknévcsoport refers to a group of words in Hungarian grammar that function as a single unit to modify a noun. This unit is typically headed by an adjective, but it can also include other word classes that modify the adjective or the entire phrase. These groups essentially act as a single determiner or modifier for the noun they precede.

A basic melléknévcsoport consists of an adjective and the noun it describes, for example, "szép ház" (beautiful house). However, the complexity can increase significantly. Adverbs can modify the adjective within the group, such as "nagyon szép ház" (very beautiful house), where "nagyon" (very) modifies "szép" (beautiful). Other adjectives can also be part of the group, either in coordination or subordination, like "szép és nagy ház" (beautiful and big house).

Furthermore, postpositions or even prepositional phrases can sometimes be integrated into a melléknévcsoport, especially when they function attributively. For instance, a phrase like "a falun túli ház" (the house beyond the village) can be considered a type of extended adjective group modifying "ház". The key characteristic of a melléknévcsoport is its cohesive function in describing or specifying the noun, acting as a semantic unit within the sentence structure.
