Melalophos
Melalophos is a genus of extinct birds that lived during the Eocene epoch. Fossil remains of Melalophos have been discovered in the United States, primarily in Wyoming. These ancient birds are known from relatively well-preserved skeletons, providing valuable insights into their anatomy and lifestyle. Melalophos belongs to the order Pelecaniformes, which includes modern birds like pelicans, cormorants, and herons. This taxonomic placement suggests that Melalophos likely possessed similar adaptations for aquatic life, such as webbed feet and a hooked beak.
The diet of Melalophos is believed to have consisted mainly of fish, which they would have hunted
