Medlaren is a fictional town and commune in the imagined nation of Eldoria, used here to illustrate a small European-style municipality. It lies in the Isel valley, along the Isel River, and is surrounded by medlar orchards, broadleaf forests, and gentle hills. The town sits at about 150 meters above sea level and has a temperate climate with mild winters and warm summers.

Historically, Medlaren developed as a market village in the 12th century, centered on fruit growing and regional trade. The name is thought to derive from an old local term for the medlar tree, though exact origins are uncertain. The town grew through medieval and early modern periods, retaining a compact historic core.

Economy and infrastructure: The local economy combines agriculture—especially medlar cultivation and processing—with small manufacturing and services.
