Mazandaranispeaking

Mazandarani, also known as Tabari, is an Iranian language spoken in the Mazandaran Province of northern Iran. It belongs to the Caspian languages, a subgroup of the Northwestern Iranian languages. Mazandarani is not mutually intelligible with Persian, the official language of Iran, though it shares many common roots and features.

The language is spoken by the Mazandarani people and is part of their cultural identity. It has a rich oral tradition, including poetry, folklore, and music. While there is no standardized written form of Mazandarani, it is sometimes written using the Perso-Arabic script. Linguists have documented various dialects of Mazandarani, reflecting regional variations within the province.

The number of Mazandarani speakers is estimated to be around 3 to 4 million. Like many regional languages in Iran, Mazandarani faces pressure from the dominance of Persian in education, media, and public life. Efforts are being made by some communities and scholars to preserve and promote the language through cultural activities and educational initiatives.
