Mazagon

Mazagon, also spelled Mazgaon, is a residential and historic neighborhood in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is located on the southern part of Mumbai and is known for its proximity to the city’s harbor and port facilities. The area is part of the city’s maritime and industrial legacy and hosts a major shipbuilding and repair facility.

The Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) is a central feature of Mazagon. Established in 1934 as a government-owned shipyard, MDL is one of India's oldest and largest shipyards. It specializes in building and repairing naval and merchant vessels, and has produced ships for the Indian Navy and civilian clients. The dockyard has a significant impact on the local economy and workforce, shaping the neighborhood’s character as a dockside, industrial area.
