Matkaaja

Matkaaja is a term that appears in discussions of Finnish word formation as an illustrative, nonstandard agent noun derived from matka, meaning “journey,” with the agent suffix -aja. It is not a part of standard Finnish. The everyday terms for “a person who travels” are matkustaja or matkailija.

Etymology and morphology: The construction combines matka- with -aja, a suffix used to form agent nouns from nouns or verbs, yielding a hypothetical “one who makes journeys.” Unlike many common agent nouns, matkaaja is not widely attested in corpora or dictionaries and is considered nonstandard or experimental.
