Matigsalug

Matigsalug is an indigenous group primarily residing in Davao Region, Philippines, particularly in the provinces of Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte. They are part of the larger Manobo ethnolinguistic group. The name "Matigsalug" is derived from their ancestral domain, which is along the Salug River.

The Matigsalug people have a rich cultural heritage, traditionally characterized by their close relationship with nature and their intricate social structures. Their livelihood often revolves around agriculture, hunting, and gathering, with customary practices passed down through generations. They are known for their unique customs, rituals, and oral traditions, which play a significant role in their identity and community cohesion.

Historically, the Matigsalug have faced challenges related to land rights, cultural preservation, and integration with mainstream society. Efforts have been made to protect their ancestral domain and promote their cultural distinctiveness. Their language, also called Matigsalug, is a dialect of the Manobo language.
