Massenziehen

Massenziehen is a German term that translates to "mass pulling" or "mass effect" and is most commonly associated with the field of physics, particularly in the context of special relativity. It describes the phenomenon where the inertial mass of an object increases as its velocity approaches the speed of light. This increase in mass is not a result of adding more matter, but rather a consequence of the energy the object possesses due to its motion.

According to Einstein's theory of special relativity, as an object accelerates, its kinetic energy increases. This energy is directly related to its inertial mass. Therefore, to accelerate an object further as it gets closer to the speed of light requires an ever-increasing amount of energy, because its effective mass is growing. This is why it is impossible for any object with mass to reach the speed of light; it would require an infinite amount of energy. The concept of massenziehen is a direct implication of the mass-energy equivalence principle, famously expressed by the equation E=mc².
