Maslahat is a term meaning public interest or welfare in Arabic, and it is used across Persian, Urdu, Turkish, and other languages to denote the aim of law and policy to advance communal well-being. The word derives from the Arabic maslahah, literally “benefit,” with the plural masalih. In legal and political discourse, maslahah is the notion that laws and rulings should promote welfare, prevent harm, and serve the common good, not merely follow textual rules in isolation.
