Markkomposition is a term that refers to the arrangement and selection of musical marks or symbols within a musical score. These marks can include notes, rests, clefs, key signatures, time signatures, accidentals, articulations, dynamics, and other performance indications. The way these elements are composed and placed on the page directly influences how a piece of music is interpreted and performed.

A composer's markkomposition involves making deliberate choices about pitch, rhythm, harmony, and timbre. For instance, the choice of a specific clef at the beginning of a staff sets the reference point for all subsequent notes.
