Manickavasagars

Manickavasagar was a Tamil poet and saint who lived in the 9th century CE. He is one of the most important figures in the Saiva Siddhanta tradition and is revered as one of the Nayanmars, a group of 63 devotee saints of Lord Shiva. His collected works, known as the Thiruvacakam, are considered a cornerstone of Tamil devotional literature and are highly influential in South Indian religious practices.

Born in Vadavoor, a village in present-day Tamil Nadu, Manickavasagar rose to prominence as a minister in the Pandya kingdom. However, his spiritual calling led him to renounce his worldly position and dedicate himself to the worship of Shiva. The Thiruvacakam is a collection of his poems that express his deep love, devotion, and spiritual experiences with Lord Shiva.
