Mangaanihappo

Mangaanihappo, also known as permanganic acid, is a hypothetical inorganic compound with the chemical formula HMnO4. It is the highest oxidation state oxyacid of manganese. While permanganic acid itself has not been isolated or characterized as a stable compound, its salts, the permanganates, are well-known and widely used. The most common permanganate salt is potassium permanganate (KMnO4), a strong oxidizing agent. Permanganic acid is considered to be a strong acid, comparable in strength to sulfuric acid. It is believed to be unstable and would likely decompose rapidly if it could be formed. The manganese atom in permanganic acid is in the +7 oxidation state, which is the highest possible oxidation state for manganese. This high oxidation state contributes to its potent oxidizing properties. In aqueous solutions, it would likely exist in equilibrium with other manganese species depending on the pH.
