Mallimuotoja refers to a traditional Finnish method of constructing a simple, portable shelter or lean-to using natural materials. The term combines *malli* (meaning "pattern" or "model") and *muotoja* (meaning "shaper" or "builder"), reflecting its role as a basic framework for creating temporary living spaces. This technique has historical roots in Finland’s harsh climate, where nomadic and seasonal lifestyles required adaptable housing solutions.

The basic structure of a mallimuotoja typically involves a slanted roof supported by a single or double set of poles, often made from birch or pine branches. The roof is thatched with pine needles, moss, or other available vegetation to provide insulation and weather resistance.
