Malat2

Malat2, short for metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 2, is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) gene found in mammals, including humans. It is transcribed by RNA polymerase II to produce a single long RNA molecule that localizes to the nucleus in many cell types. Expression of Malat2 has been detected across multiple tissues, with patterns that vary by developmental stage and cell type, though overall abundance is moderate compared with other lncRNAs.

Compared with MALAT1, Malat2 is less well characterized. Available studies suggest it may participate in regulation of gene expression and RNA processing, potentially influencing transcriptional programs and cell proliferation, but the precise molecular mechanisms remain unclear.
