Maksasolukkoissa, also known as liver cysts, are fluid-filled sacs that develop within the liver. They are typically benign and do not cause symptoms in many cases. However, they can sometimes grow large enough to be detected on imaging tests or to cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or jaundice. There are several types of liver cysts, including:

1. Simple cysts: These are the most common type, accounting for about 80% of all liver cysts. They are usually small, round, and filled with clear fluid. Simple cysts are usually benign and do not require treatment unless they grow large or cause symptoms.

2. Complex cysts: These cysts have a more complex structure, with a solid component in addition to the fluid-filled portion. Complex cysts can be benign or malignant, and further evaluation is often necessary to determine the cause.

3. Hepatic hydatid cysts: These are caused by the larvae of the tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus. They are typically large and can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, and jaundice. Treatment usually involves surgical removal or medical therapy.

4. Colloid cysts: These are rare cysts that are filled with a thick, jelly-like substance. They are usually benign and do not require treatment unless they grow large or cause symptoms.

Liver cysts can be detected on imaging tests such as ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI. In some cases, a biopsy may be performed to determine the cause of the cyst. Treatment options depend on the type and size of the cyst, as well as the presence of symptoms. Simple cysts that do not cause symptoms may not require treatment, while larger cysts or those that cause symptoms may require surgical removal or other interventions.
