Majistret
Majistret, also spelled majistrat, is a historical title used in Sweden and other Nordic countries for a local magistrate. The term derives from Latin magistratus via Germanic languages and denotes an official who administered local justice and maintained public order. In different periods the majistret could be part of the municipal government or a stand-alone judicial office; responsibilities commonly included handling minor civil and criminal cases, supervising local police or peacekeeping efforts, collecting fines, and representing the municipality in legal matters.
