Maharishi
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was an Indian Hindu guru and a prominent figure in the introduction of transcendental meditation (TM) to the West. He gained international recognition in the 1960s and 1970s as the spiritual advisor to the Beatles and other celebrities. Maharishi founded the organization known as the Students International Meditation Society (SIMS) in 1965, which later evolved into the Global Country of World Peace. His teachings emphasized the potential for inner peace and happiness through the practice of TM, a mantra-based meditation technique. He also promoted the idea of "yogic flying," a supposed state of levitation achieved through advanced TM practices. Maharishi established numerous meditation centers and universities worldwide, aiming to promote his philosophy of consciousness-based education and his vision of a stress-free world. His influence extended to areas such as health, education, and even politics, with his organization advocating for the application of TM principles to societal problems. He passed away in 2008.
