Magzatvízvizsgálat

Magzatvízvizsgálat, also known as amniocentesis, is a medical procedure performed during pregnancy. It involves the withdrawal of a small sample of amniotic fluid, which surrounds the fetus, using a thin needle inserted through the mother's abdomen. This fluid contains fetal cells and other substances that can be analyzed for diagnostic purposes.

The primary reasons for performing magzatvízvizsgálat include genetic testing, identifying chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome, and detecting certain inherited metabolic disorders. It can also be used to assess fetal lung maturity in late pregnancy, determine if the fetus has a serious infection, or to relieve polyhydramnios, a condition of excessive amniotic fluid.

The procedure is typically performed between the 15th and 20th week of gestation, although it can be done later if necessary. It is usually guided by ultrasound to ensure the safety of both the mother and the fetus. While generally considered safe, magzatvízvizsgálat carries a small risk of complications, including miscarriage, infection, and leakage of amniotic fluid.

The results of the tests performed on the amniotic fluid can take several weeks to become available.
