Magazinförderung

Magazinförderung refers to the process of moving ammunition from a magazine into the firing chamber of a firearm. This is a critical step in the semi-automatic and automatic operation of most modern firearms. The mechanism by which magazinförderung occurs can vary significantly between different firearm designs.

In many semi-automatic pistols and rifles, the recoil generated by firing a round is used to operate a bolt or slide. This movement extracts the spent casing and simultaneously pushes the next round from the magazine forward and into position to be chambered. A spring within the magazine then pushes subsequent rounds upward, ready for the next cycle.

For firearms utilizing gas operation, a portion of the propellant gases is tapped from the barrel to actuate a bolt carrier. This also facilitates the extraction of spent casings and the feeding of new rounds from the magazine.

The reliability of magazinförderung is paramount for a firearm's functionality. Factors such as magazine spring tension, follower design, feed ramp geometry, and the tolerances within the firearm's action all contribute to smooth and consistent feeding. Issues in any of these areas can lead to malfunctions such as misfeeds or jams, preventing the firearm from firing.
