Maavärinatele

Maavärinatele refers to a Finnish term that translates to "earthquakes" or "seismic events." This natural phenomenon occurs when the Earth's crust suddenly releases energy, typically due to the movement of tectonic plates. This release of energy creates seismic waves that travel through the Earth, causing the ground to shake.

The Earth's crust is composed of several large tectonic plates that are constantly, albeit slowly, moving. When these plates collide, pull apart, or slide past each other, stress can build up along their boundaries, known as fault lines. When this stress exceeds the strength of the rocks, a rupture occurs, resulting in an earthquake.
