Maavaratüüp refers to a classification system used to categorize mineral deposits based on their geological origin and characteristics. This system helps geologists and mining professionals understand the processes that formed the deposit, predict its size and grade, and plan for its extraction.

There are several broad categories within maavaratüüp, often distinguished by the tectonic setting and the associated magmatic or hydrothermal activity. Some common types include porphyry copper deposits, which are large, low-grade copper deposits associated with intrusions of felsic to intermediate magma. Epithermal deposits are formed by hot, mineral-rich fluids circulating near the Earth's surface, often yielding gold and silver. Volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits are formed on the seafloor by hydrothermal vents, typically containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver. Magmatic-sulfide deposits are directly related to the cooling and crystallization of mafic and ultramafic magmas, concentrating metals like nickel, copper, and platinum-group elements.
