Määräsanat, or determiners in Finnish grammar, are a category of words that specify or quantify nouns. They play a crucial role in defining the reference, quantity, or possession of the noun they accompany. Determiners are essential for clarifying whether a noun refers to something specific, general, or indefinite.

In Finnish, määräsanat include articles, possessive pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, interrogative pronouns, and quantifiers. Unlike some languages, Finnish does not have grammatical gender or number distinctions in its determiners, simplifying their use. The most common Finnish determiner is the indefinite article *jokin*, meaning "some" or "any," while the definite article is often implied rather than explicitly stated.

Possessive pronouns, such as *minun* (my), *sinun* (your), and *hänen* (his/her), indicate ownership or relationship. Demonstrative pronouns like *tämä* (this) and *tuo* (that) specify proximity, distinguishing between nearby and distant objects. Interrogative pronouns, such as *mikä* (what) and *kuka* (who), are used in questions to identify unknown nouns.

Quantifiers like *moni* (many), *kaikki* (all), and *puolet* (half) provide information about the quantity of the noun. Some quantifiers, such as *jokin* and *joku*, introduce indefinite references, while others, like *jokainen* (every), specify universality. Determiners often precede the noun they modify and can influence adjective agreement in terms of case and number.
