Länsisuomalainen
Länsisuomalainen is a Finnish term that literally means “Western Finn.” It is used both as an adjective describing people, culture, and products from western Finnish regions, and as the title of a newspaper that has published news in Turku and surrounding areas since the 19th century. The western parts of Finland—including the regions of Southwest Finland, Satakunta, and part of Ostrobothnia—are known for a distinct dialect pattern within the Finnish language. Vowel harmony and consonant gradation are typically maintained, but the use of long vowels and the accentuation in place names differ from the eastern standard. This regional speech is often labelled “Länsipuoli” and is sometimes considered a subdialect of Southern Finnish.
