Lämpönsiirto

Lämpönsiirto, or heat transfer in English, is the study of thermal energy moving from one system to another. This movement is driven by a temperature difference. There are three primary mechanisms by which heat transfer occurs: conduction, convection, and radiation.

Conduction is the transfer of heat through direct contact between particles. In solids, this happens through vibrations and collisions of atoms and molecules. In liquids and gases, it also involves the movement of energetic molecules.

Convection involves the transfer of heat through the movement of fluids, either liquids or gases. When a fluid is heated, it becomes less dense and rises, while cooler, denser fluid sinks. This creates a circular motion, known as a convection current, which efficiently transfers heat.

Radiation is the transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves. This process does not require a medium and can occur through a vacuum, such as the heat from the sun reaching Earth. All objects above absolute zero emit thermal radiation.

It explains phenomena ranging from how a metal spoon heats up in hot soup to how the Earth's atmosphere is heated.
