Lämpökovetuvat

Lämpökovetuvat, or thermosetting plastics, are a class of polymers that irreversibly cure from a liquid or malleable state into a rigid, infusible solid when heated. This process, known as curing or cross-linking, involves the formation of permanent chemical bonds between polymer chains. Once cured, these materials cannot be re-melted or reshaped by heat, distinguishing them from thermoplastics.

The curing process typically involves a chemical reaction, often initiated by heat or a catalyst. During this reaction, monomer units or oligomers link together to form a three-dimensional network structure. This dense cross-linked network restricts the movement of polymer chains, leading to high strength, rigidity, and thermal stability.

Common examples of lämpökovetuvat include epoxy resins, phenolic resins, polyester resins, and silicone resins. They are widely used in applications requiring high performance, such as in adhesives, coatings, composites, electrical insulation, automotive parts, and aerospace components. Their resistance to heat, chemicals, and deformation makes them suitable for demanding environments. The manufacturing process usually involves mixing resin components and then molding them into the desired shape before or during the curing process.
