Lämpöasettamispinnoitteiden, known in English as thermal spray coatings, are a group of industrial coating processes used to apply protective and functional surface layers to various substrates. These processes involve heating a coating material, typically in powder or wire form, to a molten or semi-molten state and then propelling it at high velocity onto the surface to be coated. Upon impact, the molten or semi-molten particles rapidly cool and flatten, forming a dense, layered coating.

The primary methods of thermal spraying include flame spraying, plasma spraying, arc spraying, and high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) spraying. Each method utilizes different heat sources and particle propulsion mechanisms, allowing for a wide range of coating materials and application requirements. Flame spraying uses a combustion flame, plasma spraying uses a high-temperature plasma jet, arc spraying uses an electric arc between two consumable electrodes, and HVOF spraying uses a high-pressure combustion gas.

Thermal spray coatings are employed to enhance a substrate's resistance to wear, corrosion, heat, and erosion. They can also be used to restore worn components, improve electrical or thermal conductivity, or provide specific aesthetic properties. Common coating materials include metals, alloys, ceramics, and polymers. The applications are extensive, found in industries such as aerospace, automotive, power generation, manufacturing, and oil and gas. The selection of the appropriate thermal spray process and coating material depends on the specific performance requirements of the component and the operating environment.
