Lyöntivuoro

Lyöntivuoro is a Finnish term that translates to "hitting turn" or "at-bat" and is most commonly used in the context of baseball and its Finnish variant, pesäpallo. It refers to the period when a team is on offense and attempts to score runs by hitting a ball and advancing runners around bases.

In pesäpallo, the game is divided into innings, and within each inning, both teams get a lyöntivuoro. The team at bat sends its players one by one to hit the ball pitched by the opposing team's pitcher. The goal is to hit the ball fair and reach a base, and then advance to subsequent bases and eventually home plate to score a run. The defensive team's objective is to prevent the offensive team from scoring by getting outs.

A lyöntivuoro ends for a team when they accumulate a predetermined number of outs, typically three in pesäpallo and baseball. Once a team's lyöntivuoro is over, the roles reverse, and the other team then takes its turn at bat. The strategic aspect of the lyöntivuoro involves both the batter's ability to hit and run, and the fielders' ability to catch the ball and make plays to get outs.
