Lymfeknutespanst refers to the feeling or perception of swelling or enlargement in lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped glands that are part of the body's immune system. They filter lymph fluid and trap foreign particles like bacteria and viruses. While lymph nodes can naturally swell when the body is fighting an infection, the sensation of "lymfeknutespanst" can arise from various causes.

This sensation can be associated with actual lymph node enlargement, medically termed lymphadenopathy. Lymphadenopathy can be a symptom of infections, both viral and bacterial, such as the common cold, flu, or more serious conditions like mononucleosis. It can also be a sign of inflammatory conditions, autoimmune diseases, or, in some cases, malignancy. The affected lymph nodes may feel tender, firm, or rubbery.

However, "lymfeknutespanst" can also be a subjective experience without a corresponding physical enlargement of the lymph nodes. This can occur due to heightened body awareness, anxiety, or somatization, where psychological distress manifests as physical symptoms. Individuals might perceive their lymph nodes as swollen even when a medical examination reveals them to be normal in size and consistency.
