Luzech

Luzech is a commune in the Lot department in southwestern France. It is situated on the right bank of the Lot River, about 15 kilometers downstream from Cahors. The village is dominated by its medieval castle, the Château de Luzech, which stands on a rocky promontory overlooking the river.

Historically, Luzech was a strategic stronghold, its location providing natural defenses. The castle's origins date back to the 12th century, though it has undergone numerous modifications and expansions over the centuries. It played a significant role during the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of Religion. Today, the castle is a private residence but its impressive architecture and panoramic views are a major attraction for visitors.
